The single biggest failure point is not the editing — it is preparation. Unsteamed creases, visible pins, a lopsided collar and a garment that is a size too large for the mannequin all show up mercilessly once the mannequin is removed. Budget more time for dressing the garment than for photographing it.

Shoot both frames back to back before you move anything. If you shoot fifty garments and then discover the inner-neck frames were taken from a slightly different camera position, every single composite will be wrong.

The edit, in practice

The composite is a layer-order exercise:

1. Inner-neck frame on the bottom layer.

2. Main frame on top with the mannequin masked out.

3. The collar opening in the top layer becomes transparent, revealing the interior beneath.

4. Match the exposure of the two layers, clean the mask edges, flatten and export.

Zoom to 100% along the mask edge before exporting. Halos and jagged cut-outs are the tell that separates a professional ghost mannequin image from an obvious one.
